In the context of HIT, the purpose of this act and its amendments is to provide regulations that protect the privacy and confidentiality of health information.

HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act)

HITECH is the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, or the "HITECH Act,” which established programs under Medicare and Medicaid to provide incentive payments for the "meaningful use" of certified electronic health records (EHR) technology.
